Degree Program
A major in physics provides a foundation in a fundamental science that can
be built upon in graduate studies in physics or engineering; that can be
applied in a wide range of science-related careers such as medicine,
electronics, energy or computer science, or can be shared with others
through a career in teaching.
Physics courses range from a basic introduction of physics principles to
in-depth investigations of the fundamental properties and behavior of
matter. The Physics Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree.

Other Information
A co-op program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in
physics is available. Under this program plan, a student usually works
in industry or at a government laboratory during the summers and one
semester. Call or write the chair of the Department of Physics for more
information and applications.
Upon approval of the chair of the Department of Physics, certain
engineering courses may be applied toward the major in physics. Physics
121 and 122 may be substituted for 210 and 211 for the physics major
upon approval from the physics chair.
